Something that you’ll notice when you have a hot tub of your very own is that your home suddenly becomes a magnet of activity. Family members will start to visit more often. Neighbors will offer to bring food and desserts to you. And an unexpected bonus is that your family will suddenly want to spend more time at home. They’ll even start bringing their friends to hang out at your house when they may have been going elsewhere before.
The good thing about having your kids and other loved ones at your home is that you get to spend more time with them. Even though their true motivation may have been to take advantage of your hot tub, it will still give you an opportunity to make some memories and connect with them more. Relaxing in the hot tub together is a great way to do that. There are no distractions from phones or televisions. You can turn on some music that you all love and just enjoy each other’s company. Playing a game together is another wonderful way to keep the conversation flowing. Here are a few ideas of games that you can play that require nothing but you and your loved ones.
Guess Who
This is a variation on the old “Twenty-Questions” game. In this version, instead of picking an animal, vegetable, or mineral you’ll choose a person. You can all decide ahead of time if the person has to be a real historical figure, celebrity, or fictional character. When it’s your turn, everyone takes turns asking you yes-or-no questions to reduce the possibilities until they have enough clues to guess the right person. You can keep the classic rules and limit it to twenty questions or just keep going until someone gets it right. Whoever guesses the right person gets to go next.
The Singing Bee
You choose a song and start to sing it. You can sing the first couple of lines or you can sing to the chorus. At some point, you stop singing and point to someone. They have to pick up the song and sing the next few lines perfectly. If they do, it becomes their turn and they get to pick a new song. If not they guess wrong, then you choose the next player. It’s a fun way to see how much your kids were paying attention when you played music in the car when they were little!
Hot Tub Hockey
All you need for this game is a floating toy, like a rubber ducky or a small plastic ball. Divide the family into two teams and sit on opposite sides of the spa. Place the ducky in the middle and then work with your teammates to send it to the other team’s side of the hot tub. The catch is, that you can’t touch the ducky! You can blow on it, create waves to push it, or you can splash it. The first team to get the ducky to touch the opposite wall three times wins the game.
These are three of our favorites, but there are a ton of options. Besides these, you could buy waterproof board games, or tweak one of your family’s favorites to work in the spa. Just avoid playing anything that requires getting in and out of the hot tub or going under the water. Safety is important.
